BABY REGISTRY MUST HAVES

It’s how fast all the baby stuff changes. Cooper is only 3 and I already feel like it’s all different. Do you know they don’t even have you alcohol their belly button in the hospital anymore? The nurse looked at me like I was crazy when I asked for alcohol wipes. And where was the DocATot and Mama Roo when he was born?

Cameron is the classic second kid and we’re teaching him to get used to the hand-me-downs early on, although at the rate he’s growing, he’ll be giving Coop the hand-me-downs soon. With Cooper I kept literally everything. The closet in his room (and most of our shed and some of my mom’s) was full of baby stuff. After Cameron is done though, we’re finally going to get rid of it all. And yes, I’ll probably cry.

But that means if we ever have another baby, they’ll just have to get new stuff because I think the 6 year old Fisher Price swing has seen its final days (it actually used to be my little sister’s!). By then we’ll probably have some kind of hover swing. And then I’ll have to pour through review after review or….I could just go to The Baby Cubby.

They are great. Period. I found them through another blog and ordered this monkey backpack for Cooper and filled it with new little toys for when he spent the night with Grandma when it was time to have Cam. I’ve been back multiple times since then. They only sell the safest and most highly reviewed products, so you know you’re getting something good and don’t feel jipped when your package arrives. It doesn’t hurt that they price match (even with Amazon) and that there’s always free shipping over $49.

You know you’re a mom when you get excited about a price match.

Now that I’m doing this whole baby thing for the second time though, I realize how much stuff I had with Cooper that I didn’t need (bottle sterilizer anyone? Why is hot soapy water not enough?) and what was a total life saver. The brands and the bells and whistles may change over the years, but the basic idea of a good product is what sticks around. So while I may not have the same exact things here, I do have some variation and every one was something I was so glad I had at the time.

If I was doing it all again for the first time, this is what I’d register for…

1. Skip Hop Grab & Go Baby Food Storage Tower
2. DockATot Deluxe Dock Baby Lounger
3. Sakura Bloom Classic Sling
4. Baby Bandana Bibs
5. Nuna Sena Mini Playard
6. 4Moms MamaRoo
7. Medela Pump in Style Advanced
8. Miracle Blanket
9. Suede Pacifier Clip
10. Oball Classic Rattle
11. Skip Hop Chelsea Downtown Chic Backpack

|Disclaimer: I was compensated by The Baby Cubby for this post, but I already used (and love) their site before they contacted me. And (this goes without saying but…) thank you for supporting the brands that help support us.

I <3 BAGELS

It’s no secret that I absolutely love bagels. They’re basically all I could stomach for the first 3 months of both pregnancies and I’d still eat them every day if I could. But I TRY to limit myself to once a week. It doesn’t always happen though.

Saturday mornings have become our bagel day and it’s the one I look forward to the most. We usually get up, down a cup of coffee, I throw on some eyebrows (#priorities) and drive the 5 minutes down the street to Einsteins. I may have a Dunkin’ at the end of my block, but their bagels are  as hard as rocks. They just won’t do. Their iced caramel macchiato on the other hand…..

Anyways, when Einsteins reached out and asked if we wanted to try their new Twist N’ Dip bagel I couldn’t reply fast enough. We’re constantly there as it is anyways, so it was the least I could do.

DSC00005It’s basically a pillowy soft plain bagel with little perforations so you can easily twist it apart and dip it in the cream cheese. It comes with two extremely generous amounts of cream cheese of your choosing. I got honey almond and chive/onion but next time I think I’ll try the strawberry and the garden veggie, for research purposes of course.

This would be a great snack to bring on a morning play date in the park or for sharing with your toddler. Watch out though, they are notorious double-dippers.

DSC00015ALSO, if you’ve never had a slice of tomato (and/or cucumber) on your bagel, you are sorely missing out.  DSC00019 DSC00022

Try out the new Twist N’ Dip bagel for yourself and share your best moves on Facebook or Instagram (now through July 31st, 2016) using #twistndip for a chance to win super cool stuff like Six Flags prize packs, summer swag bags and even free bagels for a year(!!!).

AND here’s a coupon for a buy one get one free Twist N Dip: www.einsteinbros.com/twistndip. I know what I’m ordering this Saturday (x2!).

OUR BEDTIME ROUTINE — (or lack there of)

IMG_4037

I like to think I’m a pretty laid back parent and don’t get too worked up over our schedules, although I’ll admit it didn’t always used to be this way. It just seemed like once I stopped worrying so much about what time he napped or went to bed, we were all a lot happier.

It’s very rare that I look forward to putting him to bed and getting my “free” time because he’s usually in a good mood and generally fun to be around. There are THOSE DAYS though where I’m just done come 7pm but again, it’s rare. That could all change though once we have another crazy little boy running around!

One thing I never leave out is brushing his teeth before bed. I’ve even woken him up just to brush his teeth. I had such bad teeth as a child that anything I can do to prevent hours in a dentist chair, I’ll do. Heredity is not on my side though.

But let me be clear when I say — it’s TORTURE! Pure torture and I dread doing it every single night. And I’ve tried every trick in the book (er, on the internet) to change that. Nothing works.

I give him “his turn” first, which means playing with the toothbrush and sucking off all the fruity toothpaste, but when it comes to “mommy’s turn” he screams at the top of his lungs and I literally have to hold him down on my lap for the grueling 30 seconds it takes to brush his teeth. I feel terrible about it, but I’d feel even worse if he had to get a filling. It takes all my strength to do an even half way decent job because he’s flailing so much.

And when it comes to flossing – HA! I straight up told the dentist the truth. I never do it.

Until these came along…
IMG_4349Cooper LOVES the adorable flosser holder (he calls it a monster) and lights up every time he sees it.
IMG_4391He likes to make the mouth talk and it only takes him a good 10 minutes to pick which color he wants to use.

Besides being brightly colored, the flossers taste like fruit smoothie so there’s no harsh mint flavor to deal with. I also like that there’s a little fluoride since his toothpaste doesn’t have any and neither does the water we drink.

The first time I used the flossers, I honestly didn’t have high hopes because of how torturous brushing his teeth is every night. I literally get kicked and punched every night (he’s also cutting two molars so I’m hoping it gets a little better) but look!

NO TEARS!

It’s a miracle!

I almost can’t wait to take him to the dentist next week to say I finally floss his teeth every night. Almost.

Now, if anyone has any ideas for how to make brushing more fun… I’m all ears!

BREAKFAST FOR DINNER — AKA BRINNER

We usually eat the same 4 or 5 meals for dinner every week around here. It’s not easy finding things that a toddler, vegetarian and sometimes meat eater all agree on, but we make due. Usually it’s lots of pasta, tacos, stir fries and one of our favorites, breakfast. Or brinner as we like to call it.

It’s quick, it’s easy and there’s no complaining what so ever. That’s a win if you ask me.

We usually stick to eggs and pancakes, but sometimes throw in a side of crispy hash browns depending on how hungry we are. Yesterday we decided to skip ’em, and add some extra toppings to our pancakes instead (blueberries and walnuts).
DSC_0307I actually meant to add the blueberries into the pancakes, but I got distracted and totally forgot. #momlife
DSC_0301We like our pancakes thick and fluffy around here. Next time you make a batch add in some cinnamon and a splash of vanilla extract. Trust me on this one.
DSC_0311 (1)Oh and big pats of butter and real maple syrup! Hey, I didn’t say it was healthy, but it is delicious.
DSC_0314Don’t forget to break out your fancy glasses either. Anything worth having is worth using and it makes the whole thing feel a bit more like your eating out and a lot less like you just made the easiest thing you could find. Especially when your husband does the dishes 😉 If only there was champagne in there too…
DSC_0317This is the best instant mix we’ve tried so far (and we’ve tried a bunch because who really has time to make them from scratch?). They have no artificial anything and super that’s important to us, even more so if Cooper’s having some too.

Add in a little more batter than the recipe calls for to get extra fluffy pancakes. I also have a box of their heart healthy mix just asking to be made with some ripe bananas.
DSC_0325Here’s a coupon for $.50 off one box too. Hey, every little bit helps!

Now go make some pancakes! It is national breakfast month after all (side note — who comes up with these holidays and where do I apply?)

A HOLIDAY PAR-DIY

DSC_0326On Saturday we filled our tiny house with 5 kiddos and their mama’s and had ourselves a little party. It was so great to get together with everyone and chat while making a cute pair of stamped leggings to take home.

Ideally everyone would make their own stamp at the party, but since most of the kids were pretty young I decided to just go ahead and make them all ahead of time. I pulled out my christmas cookie cutters and a few stencils and I think they came out pretty good. It definitely was easier than I thought it would be.

DSC_0271I ended up with 2 christmas trees, a candy cane, lights, stars and a heart (incase anyone didn’t want to go the Christmas themed route). I thought about making the stamps double sided but didn’t want to chance it being too messy and accidentally getting paint where it shouldn’t be. I totally could have done it though and probably will next time. That fabric paint dries super quick.

I wasn’t sure how the day was going to pan out because Cooper straight-up refused to nap (besides a teaser 15 minutes on the drive home from Publix) that day and I gave everyone a fair warning as soon as they arrived.

It wasn’t necessary though because he was thoroughly entertained the entire time and not one of the kids had a meltdown. That in itself is a great success. The chocolate chip cookies helped, I’m sure.
DSC_0283Brit + Co and Old Navy were kind enough to send us enough supplies and leggings for everyone, which made this party so simple to put together. But really you could easily pick up everything in one trip to the store if you want to host your own. (Do it!)

I covered our table in brown kraft paper and divided the supplies between 5 little buckets so everyone could take theirs home with them at the end of the party.DSC_0284DSC_0287I’ll admit — we were all a little apprehensive to get started because we didn’t want to “mess up”, but once one of us finally went for it and we saw how good the stamps were working, we all jumped in and got to work. DSC_0292DSC_0295DSC_0297DSC_0299Everyone’s leggings turned out so cute and we’re already talking about doing it again next year. One of our little friends was even a bit sad when it was time to leave because she just wanted to do more, but since I sent everyone home with their set of supplies so can keep the parDIY going as long as they want. I’m thinking about re-using the stamps on plain brown wrapping paper for my presents this year. They’re just too cute to only use once.

I love the way Cooper’s legging turned out and can’t wait for him to wear them when we go see Christmas lights this weekend. DSC_0306Thanks again Old Navy and Brit + Co!
