THE STORY OF A BLANKET

Single Crochet Baby BlanketWhen Cooper was born, besides being premature, he had jaundice and had to stay under the lights with that awful little mask over his eyes, anyways this meant we couldn’t hold him a whole lot because he needed to be under the light as much as possible. I was going crazy sitting in his room in the NICU for 9+ hours everyday and only being able to change his diaper every 3 hours.

I needed a project to keep my hands and mind occupied. Reading a book seemed like too much work and writing it all down only made me feel worse. So, I decided on a blanket! The next night after we left the hospital and headed over to Joanns to pick up some yarn and a crochet needle. We settled on yellow, gray, and white, which funny enough were our wedding colors too (we must really like them!) This was my first big project and the entire thing is single crochet. It looked easy enough online! I toted my bag of crochet back and forth and worked on it all day long. And that’s exactly what we did.

And it was glorious and of course that blanket got pushed aside. But, I started it so I had to finish it.

I wanted to make sure I at least had it finished by his first birthday. A year to make a blanket seems ridiculous, but I’m so proud to say I DID IT! Whew! I was sitting on the couch the other day with Corey while Cooper took a nap and I had the blanket spread across my lap and I realized I was almost out of yarn. The next few stitches would be the last. I looked over at Corey and said “well, this is it” and hooked in the last one. “I never thought you’d finish it” and honestly, neither did I. But I’m really glad I did.
